Let me show you what a ‘normal’ business week/month/year looks like;

Where we fail our teams, interested parties and ourselves is when we believe that good businesses only ever live in the ‘Peak’ area.

This is the mindset of an ‘addict’.

The reality is, to experience the ‘Peaks’ in our business, we must experience the ‘Troughs’ also.

It is in the ‘Trough’ where successful businesses;

  • Refine, hone and better their products and services.
  • Ensure they have the right people on the bus
  • Ensure their people are equipped for greater growth
  • Ensure their procedures are enhancers and not hinderers to growth.

Keys to Recognising and RELEASING Peoples’ Potential

  1. Listen to their Language

People will often speak, positively or negatively, in the direction they would like to go.

      • Negative – Recognise that they usually want the opposite to what they are complaining about so Release them to solve it.
      • Positive – Recognise that they are already thinking of improvements for the department and Release them to develop and present steps to bring life to the improvements.

2. Identify their Focus

People will often show you where they want to go by their focus.

      • What they continually gravitate to, look to and head towards show you what motivates them. Recognise what motivates them and Release them into the next task by building it around their focus.
      • i.e. If they are focused on family time, then offer an early knock-off on Friday if the task is completed or if they are motivated by the $, then offer small incentives for early completion etc.

3. Adjust their Position

People position themselves for either success or failure.

      • If we can Recognise where they have positioned themselves, then we can identify those that are already moving towards their Potential and just need to be Released into it.
      • i.e. An employee who is positioning themselves to be at work early, present solutions to challenges and working towards the team’s best interest is ready for the Release to the next step on their way to their Potential.
      • Alternatively, some people need to be coached into adjusting their position so that they can be Released into their Potential

Either way – both outcomes are good for you and your business.

Success in Life comes from Balance.

Success in Life is finding the balance between work and family.
This doesn’t mean equal time, it means continually adjusting to the needs of the time.
Some days/weeks my wife and family need more time and other days/weeks work does.
You find the balance point for the season and honest communication helps to identify where that point is.

If you feel out of balance,

  • take a step back,
  • review where you are currently at and
  • calculate the duration of the current situation.

Then communicate this with your family,
Allocate the time where you will be at ‘Home’ physically and emotionally and when your next break with them will be.

Balance is not always easy, However, it is always achievable if we really want to get there.
